An archive of ARCGIS digital data for the newly compiled geologic map of the Saudi Arabian shield has been created on the K drive of the SGS intranet system. The archive has restricted access and at the time of writing can be accessed by the author (P.R. Johnson) and Bander Shaikan. The archive contains (1) digital data for the primary geologic map resulting from the compilation program – a map of the entire shield at 1:500,000 scale -- as well as (2) maps of parts of the shield at 1:5000,000, (3) a simplified geologic map at a scale of 1:1 million, (4) a simplified map at a scale of 1:2 million, and (5) a set of derivative maps illustrating the composition and structure of the shield. The following notes provide information about the formats and contents of the ARCGIS maps, together with information about hard-copy versions of the maps and explanatory notes in cases where the maps have been published as SGS Open-File or Technical Reports, and a bibliography of other relevant reports.
